Principles of Shooting

Fundamentals of rifle/pistol marksmanship commonly taught across disciplines.

  • Safety first: muzzle awareness, trigger discipline, know your target and what’s beyond.
  • Stable position and natural point of aim (NPA).
  • Grip and stock weld; consistent shoulder and cheek pressure.
  • Sight alignment and sight picture; parallax and focus considerations.
  • Breathing control: pause or respiratory pause for the shot.
  • Trigger control: smooth press to the rear without disturbing sights.
  • Follow-through: maintain position and sight picture after the shot.
