Principles of Shooting
Fundamentals of rifle/pistol marksmanship commonly taught across disciplines.
- Safety first: muzzle awareness, trigger discipline, know your target and what’s beyond.
- Stable position and natural point of aim (NPA).
- Grip and stock weld; consistent shoulder and cheek pressure.
- Sight alignment and sight picture; parallax and focus considerations.
- Breathing control: pause or respiratory pause for the shot.
- Trigger control: smooth press to the rear without disturbing sights.
- Follow-through: maintain position and sight picture after the shot.
